PATH During Covid-19
PATH will be online for the fall
Following the lead of the Seattle Public Schools, we have decided that for the safety of our teachers and families, we will be online at least through December this year. We recognize this is not ideal, that so much of preschool is the social interaction among children and the 2-3 hours of kid free time it affords you as parents. We get this and believe us, we grieve the necessity of making this decision. However, we simply can't risk the health of our staff and families to do that. And so we are working hard to design an online program that can give your children as many of the quintessential preschool experiences as possible.
What will PATH online look like?
We would like to shape our PATH Online experience with input from you so please take a few minutes to fill out the survey coming in a separate email. Here is some of what we are anticipating the fall will include:
Live ZOOM Circle Time & Small Groups (~45-90 minutes/day)
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9am we will have live circle time on ZOOM. These times will include singing, stories, counting and letter games, calendar and weather, movement (gross and fine motor), patterns and a chance to interact with teachers Gwen, Michelle and Autumn. Following circle time we will break into ZOOM small groups for show and tell and a variety of other learning activities. We may also use small groups for more leveled pre-reading teaching.
To provide additional learning opportunities for our PATH kids, we have a PATH Youtube channel where additional original PATH content can be accessed by PATH families. These videos will include stories read by one of our PATH teachers, virtual field trips to a flower shop or to see an old fashioned fire truck, singing, interactive games and crafts! These videos will be available to augment the LIVE elements of PATH and can be accessed whenever is convenient to you.
PATH-at-home Supply Tubs
PATH-at-home Supply Tubs will be distributed to each PATH student. These tubs include supplies to be used during PATH circle time, small groups and PATH Youtube videos. Our activities will be designed with the idea that children will have these supplies on hand and will be able to use them relatively independently with the guidance of the teachers over ZOOM. We envision restocking these bins occasionally with pre-prepped supplies for upcoming activities.
Phased-in In-Person Small Groups
As Covid numbers begin to drop and expert guidance suggests it is safe to do so, we hope to begin phasing in in-person elements. This might include small group park meet-ups or socially distanced show-and-tells, or even PATH Co-op mornings where small groups of children gather in backyards for playtime, snacks and a lesson guided by a PATH Youtube pre-recorded video.
